The Postal Museum is located at Al-Ataba Square in Middle Cairo, on the second level of the Central Post Office. The museum was founded in February 1934 and it opened its doors to the public in January 1940.

Description

The Postal Museum is located at Al-Ataba Square in Middle Cairo, on the second level of the Central Post Office. The Museum was founded in 1934 during the reign of King Fuad I on the occasion of the opening of tenth Universal Postal Conference in Cairo. It opened its door to the public in 1940. The museum was then renovated in the era of President Hosni Mubarak and was inaugurated in 1989.


The museum consists of ten sections:

The History Section: includes the models for the evolution of writing and the letter and on the covers of various ancient and modern, such as panel Narmer and the ink tanks of the Covenant, the Pharaonic, Roman, Coptic, and papyri and the statue of the writer in the era of the ancient and modern, and samples of some of the messages and letters Basor different as a message stick and the head of the soldier, also includes on several documents as a contract franchise company of Bosnia and the first European publication of the interest in outdated e-government

Section of local and foreign Stamps: includes collections of Egyptian and foreign stamps and Iklischhat, templates, and panels for the manufacture of stamps, as well as a range of models of action steps in the manufacture of philatelic interest area .. It also includes a unique classification of stamp sets for each of the mail European, African and Asian-mail and U.S. mail and Australian.
